Hypothesis
The idea behind this Elyxr sample session was simple:
To see whether our hangover formulation could noticeably reduce hangover symptoms after a typical night of drinking.
More specifically, participants should feel a clear, noticeable improvement the next morning compared to how they normally feel after a similar night out.
This was never meant to be a strict scientific trial, rather an honest exploration of whether people could feel the difference.
Set Up
The session was designed to recreate a normal night out, without rules, restrictions, or scripted behaviour.
Participants could drink what they wanted, at their own pace, with no guidance from us.
27 people signed up to the sample session, with 9 participants known to the founder and 18 participants who were unknown.
Some took their elyxr pre-capsules before their first drink, others took them later into the night. This mirrors real-world use, where timing isn't always perfect.
The Elyxr event ran from 8:30 - 11:30pm, with freely available alcohol including mixed drinks, shots, cocktails, and spirits - again, designed to reflect a typical social drinking patterns.
The Results
All survey results were anonymously submitted, and participants were advised to be brutally honest with their feedback.
21 out of 27 participants reported at experiencing noticeably better hangover symptoms the next morning.
(One participant did not fill out the survey)
That's 81% of respondents saying they felt a meaningful improvement compared to a similar night without Elyxr.
The number of drinks consumed ranged from 5 - 20 drinks. Participants were asked to self-report how many drinks they consumed the whole night, including before, during and after the event.
Note: The scatter plot includes some overlapping values, which is why the total visible points may not equal 27.
Thoughts
This was not a controlled or scientific study, and it's important to be clear about that.
This sample session was more of a social experiment, run out of curiosity and transparency. The results don't prove clinical efficacy, and they aren't intended to persuade or make claims.
They simply give an early look at how real people felt after using Elyxr in real-life conditions.
Our aim with sharing this is honesty.
For anyone considering Elyxr, we want you to see exactly what we tested, what participants reported, and how we think about evidence as a company.
Why didn’t you do a double blinded randomised control study?
In short: we're a bootstrapped start up
A fully powered, double-blinded, randomised controlled trial takes:
- significant funding
- large participant numbers
- specialised scientific oversight
- months of planning and execution
We're not there yet - but it is something we intend to pursue as a the company grows. Building Elyxr the right way meaning grounding our decision in science, and a formal clinical trial is firmly on our roadmap once the resources allow.
